Hoggard extends Leicestershire contract
By Paul Bolton
Leicestershire captain Matthew Hoggard has signed a one-year contract extension that will keep him at Grace Road until at least the end of the 2013 season.
The initial three-year deal that Hoggard signed after he was controversially released by Yorkshire at the end of the 2009 season expires in September but the former England swing bowler has now agreed to extend his stay with the county.
“I am delighted to extend my contract with Leicestershire. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here and am looking forward to continuing at the club,” Hoggard said.
“We have some talented youngsters here and I am excited about the prospect of their development over the next two years. These are vibrant times at the club and I am pleased to be a part of what is happening at Grace Road.”
Hoggard took 50 first-class wickets in his first season with Leicestershire and then led them to the Friends Life T20 title last year.
He is currently sidelined with a hand injury which he sustained throwing a rugby ball in training last month. Last year Hoggard missed two months of the season after he suffered another hand injury hitting a punch ball in training.
“Matthew has been an inspiration both on and off the field since he joined us and I am delighted that he will be around for a further season,” said Leicestershire chief executive Mike Siddall.
