Leicestershire take Berrington on loan

By Paul Bolton

Leicestershire have signed Scotland all-rounder Richie Berrington on a one month loan. Berrington, 25, was offered a chance to join Leicestershire on a permanent deal last year but opted to continue his career with Scotland.

But he has now been brought in on a short-term arrangement to help reinforce a small squad that has been depleted by injuries to captain Matthew Hoggard, Will Jefferson, Nathan Buck and Paul Dixey.

Berrington impressed Leicestershire during the 2010 campaign when Scotland completed a CB40 double over them and he scored 51 and 46 in those two matches.

As part of loan arrangement Berrington will be available to play for Scotland in the CB40. The loan will be reviewed at the end of the month.

Berrington was born in South Africa but has spent most of his life in Scotland. He was part of the European Cricket Academy as an 18-year-old and made his debut for Scotland Under-19s while he was still eligible to play for their Under 17s.

He has played 20 one day internationals and 12 Twenty20 internationals. He has also made 11 first-class appearances and scored more 1,200 runs.
