Stone rewarded with contract extension
By Paul Bolton
Northamptonshire have secured the services of England Under-19 seamer Olly Stone on a one-year contract extension that will keep him at Wantage Road until the end of the 2015 season.
Stone recently returned from England Under-19s tour of South Africa where he was appointed captain after Leicestershire all-rounder Shiv Thakor was forced to return him early with a hand injury.
Stone took 11 for 79 in the second Youth Test against South Africa in Paarl, the best-ever figures by England at that level. He said: “I was delighted to hear the good news after coming back from South Africa, where I enjoyed a level of success with ball in hand. It’s nice to be rewarded with this extension, which hopefully goes to show that I’m making progress and improving my game well."
Stone, 19, was born and raised in Norfolk and played Minor Counties cricket for his native county while he also progressed through Northamptonshire’s academy system.
Northamptonshire head coach David Ripley said: “This is good reward, not just for his tour, but from the moment Olly turned professional. His attitude to the game is outstanding for one so young, and we see him becoming a big part of the club’s future ambitions in all formats of the game."
