Graves poised to take ECB role

By Graham Hardcastle

Yorkshire’s executive chairman Colin Graves is set to replace Dennis Amiss as the ECB’s deputy chairman having won the ballot of the chairmen of the first-class counties and the MCC by ten votes to seven.

Graves beat Essex’s Nigel Hilliard, and his name will be put forward to the ECB’s 41 members for election. Amiss will step down from his role at the ECB’s 2013 AGM, meaning Graves, if successful, will take on the post until the 2016 AGM.

The former owner of supermarket chain Costcutter, Graves became Yorkshire’s executive chairman last summer. He had been the club’s chairman since 2006, but altered his title to take on added responsibility in the day to day running of the club following Stewart Regan’s departure as chief executive in 2010. He has been an ECB board director since 2010.

Graves said: “I am honoured that the first-class counties and MCC have chosen to nominate me for the office of deputy chairman of ECB. I am most grateful for the support of my colleagues, and will now await the conclusion of the election process by ECB's 41 members.”
