Worcs switch friendlies to Kidderminster
By Paul Bolton, County News Correspondent
Worcestershire will play their two home pre-season friendlies against Gloucestershire at Kidderminster’s Chester Road ground while work continues to get the New Road playing area fit for the start of the season.
New Road was flooded three times in two months either side of winter and was twice covered in a blanket of snow.
The outfield is still soggy but the square is recovering well after the first completely dry week in almost ten months and top-seeding work is due to begin next week.
Worcestershire are not due to play a competitive match at New Road until May 8 because of building work on the new hotel and conferencing facilities at the ground which has given the groundstaff an extra month to get the outfield playable.
In the meantime Worcestershire, who will use the square on the second team ground at Kidderminster for their outdoor nets, have confirmed that the one-day friendly against Gloucestershire on April 2 and the two-day fixture against the same opponents on April 3 and 4 will be played at Chester Road.
Worcestershire will play three away friendlies before they face Gloucestershire starting with a two-day match against Somerset at Taunton on March 21 and 22.
They will then play Glamorgan in Cardiff in a one-day match on March 25 followed by a two-dayer against Essex at Chelmsford from March 27 to 28.
