Mixed financial results for Sussex

By Bruce Talbot

A one-off legal settlement of £133,000 helped Sussex declare an operating surplus of £227,775 for 2012. The county's accounts, released today, show an accounting loss of £325,575 following one of the wettest summers on record.

That is an increase compared to 2011 when the accounting loss was only £123,718 but came as a result of several washed-out games including the tour match against West Indies as well as the difficult economic climate.

An increase in non-matchday revenue also helped the operating surplus to go up 28% year on year but treasurer Simon Crundwell confirmed a dip in match day revenue of 22% with the weather and fewer t20 games big factors.

He said: "Whilst a £227k operating surplus is a credible outcome, it was boosted by the one off receipt of £133k in respect of the settlement of a legal claim while income from our home Clydesdale Bank 40 semi-final and home Friends Life t20 quarter final was vital.

"Encouragingly, the club remains cash positive at an operating level with £95k generated from continuing operations after interest and before non-repeat income and depreciation.”
