Bresnan targets speedy comeback

By Graham Hardcastle

Yorkshire are hopeful that England’s Tim Bresnan will be in their side to face Sussex at Headingley during the opening round of the LV= County Championship, starting April 10, after his successful elbow operation in America.

The 27-year-old all-rounder’s right elbow has gone under the knife for a second time in Minnesota, surgery which the ECB described as “uncomplicated” to remove extra bone and scar tissue. It was performed by Dr Shawn O’Driscoll.

He will now undertake recovery and rehabilitation over the next six to eight weeks, which could still involve him flying to Barbados for the county’s pre-season tour in mid-March.

“We always like welcoming back our international players to Yorkshire,” said Yorkshire first team coach Jason Gillespie. “We wish Tim well with his rehabilitation and will work closely with the ECB to ensure he has the best possible recovery. If all goes to plan, we could see him playing competitive cricket again at the start of the new season.”

Bresnan, who is by no means certain of a place in England’s Test team, needs as much cricket as possible with Yorkshire in order to impress the selectors ahead of summer series against New Zealand and Australia.
