Hannon-Dalby set to join Warwickshire
By Paul Bolton, County News Correspondent
County champions Warwickshire are set to sign seamer Oliver Hannon-Dalby from Yorkshire. The 23-year-old from Halifax has spent almost a month on trial at Edgbaston having been given permission by Yorkshire to speak to other counties.
Warwickshire have been sufficiently impressed by Hannon-Dalby, who took five wickets against them at Edgbaston in April 2010 in only his second first-class appearance, and have decided to add him to their squad for the new season.
Yorkshire are expected to release Hannon-Dalby from the final year of his contract with them to clear the way for his move to Edgbaston. Hannon-Dalby has made 24 first-class appearance since he made his debut against Surrey in 2008 but had been warned that his first team opportunities were likely to be limited with his native county this year.
The arrival of Liam Plunkett from Durham and Jack Brooks from Northants has increased competition for places in Yorkshire’s well-stocked seam department and Hannon-Dalby has decided to resurrect his career in Birmingham.
Warwickshire lost two seamers at the end of last season when Neil Carter retired and Andy Miller was released and they are looking to strengthen that area of their squad as Chris Woakes, Chris Wright, Boyd Rankin and Rikki Clarke are all in the England system and Keith Barker is also on the radar of the national selectors.
Warwickshire do have back-up seamers in Tom Allin, Recordo Gordon, Tom Milnes and Shozair Ali but they are all inexperienced or untried at first team level. Hannon-Dalby has played more senior cricket than those three and Warwickshire hope that he will prosper under the expert tutelage of assistant coach Graeme Welch, as Wright did last season.
