White to make Northants return
By Paul Bolton, County News Correspondent
Northamptonshire have re-signed Australia batsman Cameron White as one of their overseas players for this year’s Friends Life t20 campaign.
White, who has previous county experience with Somerset, had a successful first season with Northamptonshire last summer when he made 228 runs in eight Twenty20 innings.
But his effectiveness was limited by the decision to bat White in the middle order and it is expected that Northamptonshire will open with him this year in an attempt to maximise his explosive batting.
White, 29, has played four Tests, 87 one-day internationals and 38 Twenty20 internationals for Australia. He has not played one-day international cricket for almost two years and was dropped from their Twenty20 side for a time last year but was recalled for the series against Pakistan in Dubai last September and the ICC World Twenty20.
Northamptonshire are also hopeful of signing Australia seamer Trent Copeland as their overseas player for the first half of their County Championship and Yorkshire Bank 40 campaigns.
Copeland, 26, has played three Tests and made his maiden first-class century for New South Wales in their drawn Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania in Hobart last weekend.
Northamptonshire offered Copeland a contract almost two weeks ago after South Africa seamer Rory Kleinveldt failed to meet a deadline set for him by the county to sign the contract that he had verbally agreed.
