Old Trafford to feel benefit of ECB's £1m

By Graham Hardcastle

Lancashire will use the £1million loan handed out by the ECB to install a second replay screen and electronic scoreboard next to The Point at their new look Old Trafford as well as improving net facilities and fitting out the redeveloped pavilion.

A loan is being given to all 18 counties by the board in return for meeting key strategic targets relating to stadia and facilities, customer relations, community programmes and business operations.

Lancashire are one of 13 counties who have submitted and had their detailed business plan rubber-stamped. It is anticipated that the other five counties will submit their plans later in the year.

A Lancashire statement said: “Having invested more than £40m in new infrastructure at Old Trafford, if we are to deliver on our core objectives we need to invest even further in terms of fit out and technology.

“We are focusing on improved consumer engagement with emphasis on the customer journey and experience in order to grow attendances and increase general interest in the game alongside a greater awareness of what else the club can offer.

“We are also significantly increasing our role in the community, working with the Lancashire Cricket Board, Trafford Council and local schools and clubs. And we are putting in place enhanced facilities around the ground for the benefit of all visitors.”

The club have sold 100,000 tickets for August’s third Ashes Test match, the first at Old Trafford since 2005. The first replay screen is currently located diagonally opposite The Point at the Statham End of the ground.
