Petersen looks to end run drought in Cardiff

By Paul Hiscock

South African Test opener Alviro Petersen hopes to put what he admits has been a frustrating start to his Essex career behind him this week when he plays against Glamorgan, the county he captained in 2011.

Petersen has yet to make a big score for Essex, after his first month with them, but has also fallen foul of the widespread bad weather as well as opposition new ball bowlers.

But his return to Cardiff adds extra spice to the second division County Championship clash and Petersen said: “I’m going back there now as an Essex player and looking forward to performing against Glamorgan at the SWALEC.

“I’ve got a lot of friends there and I want to do well. It’s important that I stay focussed on what I want to achieve out of the game and, if there’s any extra substance to the game, then to use it to my benefit.

“It would be nice to score a hundred but it’s a hard ask to do that in the current conditions around the country so, hopefully, I’ll get a bit of luck, get in and then look forward to making a big contribution.”
