Harker accepts new Durham role
By Graham Hardcastle
David Harker, who was due to step down as Durham’s chief executive in May, has been handed a key post in the ongoing redevelopment of the Emirates Durham International Cricket Ground.
As the county prepares for a landmark year in its history with the hosting of a first Ashes Test match in August, Harker will take on the job of group chief executive in a management restructure, continuing an association with Durham that has stood since 1991.
According to a Durham statement, he will “guide the next steps in the continuing redevelopment of Emirates Durham ICG as a major venue not only for national and international cricket but for conferences, events and hospitality”.
Richard Dowson, a former club operations director, becomes chief operating officer, while Rebecca Graham has been promoted to finance director. Scott Sherrard has taken on the job of commercial director, and Rachel Harwood has been appointed operations and events director.
Durham chairman Clive Leach said: “This is an enviable team we have put together as we embark on this exciting year. I am especially delighted that it is a combination of home-grown talent and wider industry experience, and one that will continue to build on the momentum that has taken the club so far in only 21 years.
“Last month we revealed David’s intention to move in time to a non-executive role to permit him time to pursue additional interests. I am delighted, however, that this new role will permit these to be pursued while he continues to provide the executive leadership for our ambitious plans for growth, supported by a strengthened and focused management team.”
