Cobb wins place in BPL's English XI
By Paul Bolton, County News Correspondent
Leicestershire’s one-day and Twenty20 captain Josh Cobb will play in the second Bangladesh Premier League which begins on January 18. Cobb was snapped up for $30,000 by the Dhaka Gladiators in the December 20 auction and will be one of 11 English players in the BPL.
Cobb will form part of a Dhaka squad that includes Bangladesh and former Worcestershire all-rounder Shakib-al-Hasan, Shahid Afridi, Lasith Malinga, Sussex pair Chris Liddle and Luke Wright and Kent all-rounder Darren Stevens.
But Warwickshire all-rounder Rikki Clarke was one of 11 English players who went unsold at the auction. Worcestershire left-arm seamer Jack Shantry also failed to attract a buyer as did Nottinghamshire paceman Andy Carter, former Nottinghamshire, Northamptonshire and Hampshire batsman Bilal Shafayat and former England pair Chris Schofield and Usman Afzaal, neither of whom has a county at the moment.
Worcestershire’s Dutch international batsman Alexei Kervezee was also among the players who went unsold at the auction which was held in Dhaka.
Seven teams will compete in next year’s BPL, with the addition of the Rangpur Riders to the sides that competed in the inaugural event earlier this year.
