Ajmal signs up for Hampshire in 2013
By Bruce Talbot
Hampshire have signed Pakistan off spinner Saeed Ajmal for the latter part of next season. Ajmal will replace George Bailey as Hampshire's overseas player during August and September, when the Australian is likely to be involved in Australia’s Twenty20 internationals against England.
The Pakistani will provide a potent spin threat at a time when Danny Briggs is also likely to be on international duty, and Ajmal said: "I am very pleased to be joining Hampshire to play in the County Championship. I have always enjoyed playing in England and look forward to playing my part in helping Hampshire get promoted."
It will be 35-year-old Ajmal's second stint of county cricket following his two months at Worcestershire in 2011, when he took 44 wickets in all competitions.
Hampshire manager Giles White said: “As things stand, it is possible that both George and Danny could be involved in the ODI series between England and Australia so the availability of Saeed for August and September is a great fit.
“He is one of the best bowlers in the world in all forms of the game and will add real quality to the squad at the business end of the season.”
