Wagg signs new deal for Glamorgan

By Richard Thomas

Glamorgan all-rounder Graham Wagg has signed a contract extension keeping him at the Welsh county until the end of the 2015 season.

The 29-year-year old left arm seamer joined Glamorgan in 2010 and has become a vital member of the squad, especially since James Harris left to join Middlesex at the end of last season.

His 2012 appearances were limited after he broke a bone in his foot in the LV=County Championship match against Essex in May, but Wagg returned to set two Glamorgan-best performances recording figures of six for 44 against Derbyshire in a Championship game followed by four for 45 against Surrey in a Clydesdale Bank 40 match.

Glamorgan have also confirmed that talented all-rounder Ruaidhri Smith has been given a development contract for the 2013 season. The 18-year-old seam bowler, originally from Glasgow, was the club’s 2012 Academy player of the year.

Smith scored an unbeaten 145 on his debut for Scotland Under-19s in South Africa, before starring in the recent Under-19 World Cup when he was fourth in the tournament's wicket-taking list with 12 wickets and an economy rate of fewer than four runs per over.

“Ruaidhri is a definite talent for the future and his signing, along with the recent contracts awarded to players such as Ben Wright, Andrew Salter, John Glover and Mike Reed, is a clear indication of the importance of developing our own players,” said Glamorgan head of cricket development Richard Almond.
