Reeve, Moles set for Bangladesh disappointment

By Paul Bolton

Former Warwickshire favourites Andy Moles and Dermot Reeve are set for disappointment in their attempts to become Bangladesh’s new coach.

The post will not become vacant until former Australia batsman Stuart Law steps down at the end of June but the recruitment process is already under way. Applications are due to be submitted by May 15.

Moles and Reeve, who were members of the Warwickshire side that won six domestic trophies between 1993 and 1995, have both expressed an interest in the job. Moles, who already has international coaching experience with Hong Kong, Kenya, Scotland and New Zealand, has already sent off his application.

But it seems that Bangladesh have already decided that they want another Australian to succeed Law with former Test batsman Michael Bevan believed to be top of their shopping list.

Bevan, who played county cricket for Sussex, Yorkshire and Leicestershire, has coached in the IPL since he retired from first-class cricket five years ago.

Tim Nielsen, who stepped down as Australia coach last year, and former Australia opener Justin Langer are also believed to have been approached by Bangladesh but they are not expected to apply for the vacancy.

Another former Australia batsman Dean Jones has also claimed that he has been approached by the Bangladesh Board and invited to apply to succeed Law.

Jones’s case may have been weakened by the gaffe he made six years ago when he referred to South Africa batsman Hashim Amla, a Muslim, as a “a terrorist” during a live television broadcast. Jones was sacked by Ten Sports after the incident though he subsequently apologised for his insensitive comment.
