Notts plan another Barbados pre-season camp

By Dave Bracegirdle

Nottinghamshire’s preparations for the new domestic season will again include some warm-weather cricket in the Caribbean.

In a repeat of their 2012 planning, Mick Newell’s side will head to Barbados in March, where they will again face county opposition in both two-day and Twenty20 matches, as well as a prestigious fixture against a Barbados XI at the Kensington Oval.

Hampshire and Yorkshire are already pencilled in as opponents, with Derbyshire, Northamptonshire and reigning county champions Warwickshire already confirming that they will also be participating in the 2013 Pre-Season Pro Cricket Camp.
Notts will again acclimatise and train on the eastern side of the island, where they will use the Cricket Academy run by their former all-rounder Franklyn Stephenson.

The 11-day stay will also include a visit to the British High Commission where, last year, the island’s Deputy Prime Minister acknowledged the link between the island and the Trent Bridge club, fostered during the period when the West Indies’ most famous player, Sir Garfield Sobers, played for Notts. Sobers was in attendance and spent time chatting with the current crop of Nottinghamshire players and their supporters.

Notts will travel out to the Caribbean on March 13 and return on March 25, ahead of Trent Bridge friendlies against Northants (April 1-2) and Leicestershire (April 4-5).
