Andy Flower steps down as ODI and T20 head coach

Ashley Giles has been appointed head coach of England's ODI and T20 teams after Andy Flower stepped down.

Flower will remain as England's team director, with overall responsibility for preparation and strategy. He will also continue to tour with the Test side but Giles will take over the day-to-day leadership for the England ODI and T20 sides. Giles, who steered Warwickshire to the County Championship title in 2012, will remain as a selector, as will Flower. Giles will take charge on the tour of India and New Zealand in January, and leaves Warwickshire with immediate affect.

Flower has faced an enormous workload in his time as England coach, and managing director Hugh Morris says: "Bringing in a head coach for the ODI and T20 format allows the team director more time to plan for forthcoming series and tournaments and also have a more realistic and sustainable work-life balance.

"Andy Flower has played a central role in the success we have enjoyed in England cricket in the last few years and will continue to be responsible for the development and implementation of the strategies needed to ensure we continue to improve. Ashley Giles has had considerable success as an international player and is a highly respected coach."

Flower said: "The change in role will allow me to thoroughly plan and prepare for each international series while spending the right amount of time with my young family."
