Twenty20 to make Cheltenham festival debut
By Richard Latham
Gloucestershire are to introduce Friends Life t20 cricket to their annual Cheltenham Cricket Festival for the first time next summer. The College Ground will host three 20-over fixtures against Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Glamorgan.
The 2013 Festival gets underway on Wednesday July 10 with an LV= County Championship match against Kent and this will be followed by a Friends Life t20 match versus Warwickshire on Sunday July 14.
The t20 clash with Northants will take place on Tuesday July 16, with a second Championship fixture against Worcestershire starting the following day. The Festival will conclude with the final t20 match versus Glamorgan on Sunday July 21.
Gloucestershire chief executive Tom Richardson said: “We are very excited to be introducing the Friends Life t20 to Cheltenham and are confident that it will be a great success on what is a small outfield, with the crowd very close to the action.
“We always try to have exciting games at the College Ground and to be hosting a four-day clash with Worcestershire - our northern neighbours - plus local matches against Glamorgan and Warwickshire is really good news. Kent are also excellent opponents so we are pleased with the way the fixtures have worked out.”
