Proteas captain to lead Surrey

South Africa's Test captain Graeme Smith has signed a three-year deal to join Surrey from 2013, writes Mark Pennell. With a little matter of 102 Test caps behind him, 31-year-old Smith has also agreed to suceed Rory Hamilton-Brown, who has since joined Sussex, and the club's locum skipper Gareth Batty, as Surrey's full-time skipper. Smith, who aims to balance his new role with continuing to play for his country, said: "When you consider the ambition shown it was an easy decision for myself and my family."
