Brown deal seals his Sussex future

By Bruce Talbot

Sussex wicketkeeper Ben Brown has signed a new contract which will keep him at Hove until the end of the 2014 season. Brown established himself as first choice in all formats last season after Andrew Hodd joined Yorkshire on a permanent basis following a successful loan spell.

He played in all but two of the county's Championship games in 2012, scoring more than 500 runs and taking 38 catches, and was part of the side that reached the semi-finals in both one-day competitions.

New skipper Ed Joyce says he has come to rely on Brown's input during matches. "Ben has become an integral member of the side over the last couple of seasons," said Joyce, who took over from Mike Yardy halfway through the summer before the appointment was made permanent earlier this month.

“He's a hugely talented and hard-working cricketer and the improvements he made to his all-round game this year reflect that. He was also a huge help to me tactically on the field since I took over the captaincy.”
