Trescothick has second ankle operation

By Richard Latham

Somerset captain Marcus Trescothick is recovering from another operation on his problem ankle. But this time the former England opener has had comparatively minor keyhole surgery to remove some bone spurs and was only in hospital for a day.

Trescothick said: “I had a couple of scopes to clear out some debris caused by wear and tear. The ankle is sore, but I have the winter to recover and I am hoping this surgery signals the end as far as the injury is concerned. I’m already doing some work in the gym and I’ll just take it slowly with building up the ankle again.”

Trescothick missed a large chunk of Somerset’s season following a more complex operation to repair ruptured ankle tendon. He expects to be fully fit for the start of next summer’s campaign and in the meantime is getting a lot of work as a pundit on Sky TV.

After being involved in their coverage of the Clydesdale Bank 40 final, Trescothick is now featuring regularly as a studio guest during the Twenty20 World Cup.
