New contracts for Gloucestershire pair
By Richard Latham
Gloucestershire have awarded new contracts to promising youngsters Craig Miles and Matt Taylor. Miles has pledged his future to the club by signing a new two-year deal, while Taylor has been awarded a one-year scholarship with a two-year professional contract to follow.
All-rounder Miles, an 18-year-old from Swindon, has just completed his studies at Filton College and will join the staff on a full-time basis. Taylor, from Chipping Norton, also 18 and a left-arm seam bowler, took his ‘A’ Levels this summer and is now looking to concentrate fully on developing his cricket.
Gloucestershire’s academy director Owen Dawkins, said: “Craig Miles played his first Second XI game for us at the age of 14. He has developed well as a bowling all-rounder and will spend this winter working with our strength and conditioning coach Chris Bodman.
“Matt Taylor has the ability to bowl a nagging line and length while moving the ball around. He has also been with us a number of years and it is great to see so many young players graduating from the Academy to the professional ranks.”
Miles made his LV=County Championship debut for Gloucestershire against Northamptonshire at Bristol last year, also featuring in two Clydesdale Bank 40 games while still at college. Taylor made two CB40 appearances during the 2011 season against Nottinghamshire and Essex, both at the Cheltenham Festival.
