Paceman Miller leaves Warwickshire
By Paul Bolton
Warwickshire have released seamer Andy Miller after seven years on the staff at Edgbaston. Miller, who will be 25 next week, joined Warwickshire early in the 2006 season after he opted to leave his native Lancashire in pursuit of regular first team cricket.
He played for England Under-19s in a side that included Steven Finn and Adil Rashid and appeared to have made his first team breakthrough in 2010 when he took consecutive five-wicket hauls against Lancashire and Somerset.
But Miller lost his place last season because of injury and a loss of form and the signing of Chris Wright from Essex and the emergence of Tom Milnes has increased competition for seam bowling places at Edgbaston this season.
Miller did not feature in Warwickshire’s County Championship-winning squad with his only first-class appearance in his final season at the club coming against Cardiff MCCU back in April.
Miller is keen to continue in county cricket and his details have been circulated to other counties in the hope that a bowler who is still young enough to have a bright future in the game will be given a second chance.
Warwickshire made a presentation to Miller and to all-rounder Neil Carter, who has retired from county cricket, at their end of season members’ reception at Edgbaston.
A presentation was also made to the popular David Wainwright who has retired after 13 years of service as Warwickshire’s first team scorer having previously worked as a scoreboard operator at Edgbaston.
