Saj Mahmood released by Lancashire
By Graham Hardcastle
Lancashire have released Sajid Mahmood after eleven years with the county. The 30-year-old Bolton-born fast bowler leaves Old Trafford following a difficult 2012, in which he only played three LV= County Championship matches for them before joining Somerset on loan.
Mahmood played eight Test matches, 26 one-day and four Twenty20 internationals for his country, the last of those coming in 2009. He struggled for form this season, and had his opportunities limited with the arrival of Ajmal Shahzad on loan from Yorkshire in May.
After winning the Championship last year, Mahmood, who joined the club on a scholarship deal in 2002 and made his first-team debut the same season, described it as the highlight of his career.
Lancashire cricket director Mike Watkinson said: "We would like to thank Saj for his contribution to the club over the last 10 years, and we wish him well for the future.”
