Pietersen left out of England squad
England have left out Kevin Pietersen from their Test squad for the tour of India. Two uncapped batsmen, Somerset's Nick Compton and Yorkshire's Joe Root, have been called up.
James Taylor and Ravi Bopara join Pietersen on the sidelines, while there is a recall for Eoin Morgan to the 16-man squad. England have also selected three spinners in Graeme Swann, Samit Patel and Monty Panesar.
ECB managing director Hugh Morris said: "Both ECB and England team management have had meetings with Kevin Pietersen to address the issues which led to his omission from the final Test match against South Africa. These discussions remain private and confidential and as there are issues still to be resolved Kevin has not been considered for the India tour."
Talking about Compton, who was the County Championship's leading run-scorer this season, and Root, 21, national selector Geoff Miller said: "Compton has performed consistently well for Somerset in county cricket this season, made big hundreds and shown that he has the temperament and the technique to play at a higher level.
"Joe Root is a player who has been successful at every level from county cricket through to EPP and England Lions, and he deserves the opportunity to step up to the next level and press his case for a place in the Test side."
England squad: A Cook, J Anderson, J Bairstow, I Bell, T Bresnan, S Broad, N Compton, S Finn, G Onions, E Morgan, M Panesar, S Patel, M Prior, J Root, G Swann, J Trott.
