Brooks set to leave Northamptonshire

By Paul Bolton, County News Correspondent

Northamptonshire are facing the prospect of losing the services of their England Lions fast bowler Jack Brooks. It is understood that Brooks is considering exercising a get-out clause in the contract he signed last year which allows him to move to a first division or Test Match county.

Brooks’s career appears to have stalled after a season of under-achievement and transition at Wantage Road which included the departure in early July of head coach David Capel.

Brooks, 27, has also struggled with an Achilles tendon problem and has played only ten County Championship matches this season in which he has taken 28 wickets. A change of scenery now seems likely for Brooks who was a target for Warwickshire last season.

With Chris Wright having made significant progress since he arrived at Edgbaston from Essex, Warwickshire are unlikely to renew their interest in Brooks but Lancashire and Middlesex are likely to be interested in him.

Brooks was still playing village cricket seven years ago but he was recruited by Northamptonshire in 2008 after he impressed playing Minor Counties cricket for Oxfordshire.

The pacy Brooks made his first-class debut against Australia at Wantage Road in 2009 and was called up by England Lions last winter after he took 43 first-class wickets in 2011.
