Ageas Bowl hotel to be ready for 2014 Test
By Bruce Talbot
Work will begin on the Ageas Bowl’s four-star hotel on Monday. The Hilton hotel will be completed at the Ageas Bowl’s northern end in time for the ground’s second Test match against India in 2014.
The media centre on the hotel’s first floor will be ready in time for the ground’s day-night one-day international against Australia on September 16, 2013.
Hampshire chairman Rod Bransgrove said: “It’s taken a while to finalise all the documentation but it’s all done and dusted and the builders will be on sight on Monday.
“It’s a 73-week build but we need the media centre up and running for the one-day international against Australia next September. Everything will be ready for the Test match, we’re well inside that timetable.”
Eastleigh Borough Council has invested £35m in the project, a complex deal which was finally completed this week. Bransgrove added: “It’s been a very difficult negotiation with a lot of parties and a lot of central government money involved so we’ve had to make sure everything has been done absolutely correctly.”
Eastleigh Borough Concil leader Keith House said: “It’s a very important project for the whole borough and I’m very pleased to see work will soon be starting. As well as creating jobs for local people and opportunities for local business it gives the council significant new rental income to help protect vital local services and keep council tax down.”
