Leicestershire contract for all-rounder Wells
By Paul Bolton
Leicestershire have signed all-rounder Tom Wells, who hails from a famous sporting family, on his first professional contract for next season.
The 19-year-old is the son of former England rugby forwards coach John Wells who also captained and coached Aviva Premiership club Leicester Tigers.
Wells, an aggressive middle order batsman who also bowls seam at a lively pace, is a product of Leicestershire’s academy system.
He plays his club cricket for Loughborough Town and has helped Leicestershire reach the final of this season’s Second XI Championship, making a successful return to action after injury forced him to miss most of last season.
“Tom has made a real impact this season in the second team. He deserves a chance to prove he can step up a level to the first team squad,” said Leicestershire chief executive Mike Siddall.
Wells is the third newcomer to sign a contract with Leicestershire in the past week, following batsman Angus Robson and pace bowler Ollie Freckingham.
