Paceman Burton released by Northants

Northamptonshire have released seamer David Burton after two full seasons on the staff at Wantage Road. The 27-year-old played for Gloucestershire in 2006 and Middlesex from 2008 to 2009 and joined Northamptonshire on trial in 2010.

He made his debut for Northamptonshire in the final match of that season and impressed by taking five for 75 on his senior debut against Leicestershire at Wantage Road. Burton was rewarded with a contract but has played only two LV= County Championship matches in the last two seasons.

The second of those appearances came against Gloucestershire at Wantage Road in May when a nervous and erratic performance probably sealed Burton’s fate.

Burton is the third player to be released by Northamptonshire in recent weeks following veteran batsman  Rob White and rookie batsman Ben Howgego.
