Two-year contract extension for Boyce

By Paul Bolton, County News Correspondent

Leicestershire batsman Matthew Boyce has signed a contract extension that will keep him at Grace Road until at least the end of the 2014 season.

The 27-year-old left-hander was due to be out of contract at the end of the season but has become the fourth Leicestershire player to agree an extension in recent days following batsman Michael Thornely, all-rounder Rob Taylor and slow left-armer James Sykes.

Leicestershire have also added batsman Angus Robson and pace bowler Ollie Freckingham to their squad as new recruits for next season.

"We’re delighted that Matthew has agreed to continue his career with Leicestershire,” Leicestershire chief executive Mike Siddall. “He’s had an excellent season in all forms of the game and the team has really benefited from his experience.”

Boyce passed 5,000 career runs in all competitions for Leicestershire during this summer. He is the county's second highest Championship run-scorer this season with 714 and also added 426 runs in the Friends Life t20, where he cemented his place in the team having previously been regarded as a specialist fielder in the short-form competition.
