Strauss set to quit as captain
Andrew Strauss looks likely to step down as England captain today, bringing to an end one of the most successful eras in English cricket.
Strauss's late withdrawal from Midddlesex's match at Worcester yesterday was followed by a hastily arranged media conference with England managing director Hugh Morris at lunchtime today, where it is expected Strauss will announce he is quitting as captain. It appears he will continue to make himself available as a batsman ahead of the tour of India.
Strauss, 35, led England to No.1 in the world and claimed two Ashes series along the way but his batting form has suffered recently. It seems that England's defeat to South Africa, as well as the fall-out from the Kevin Pietersen saga, has made up his mind that now is the natural time to stand down after three years in the role.
More to follow after the media conference at 12pm.
