Solanki dropped by Worcestershire
By Paul Bolton, County News Correspondent
Worcestershire have dropped their former captain Vikram Solanki for tomorrow’s LV= County Championship match against Middlesex at New Road.
Solanki will join Surrey on a two-year contract at the end of the season and with only one home match remaining – against Warwickshire next week – Solanki may well have already played his final match for Worcestershire at New Road.
The former England one-day international has been left out because of a lack of runs in recent matches, although Solanki is not the only Worcestershire batsman to have struggled this season.
He made his only century of the season against Somerset in May and has made two fifties since he announced that he would be joining Surrey, including a match-turning effort against Lancashire at Old Trafford.
Worcestershire have recalled Holland international Alexei Kervezee against Middlesex for his first Championship appearance in four months.
Kervezee made three ducks in four first-class innings before he was dropped and then broke a finge in mid-season which delayed his first team return.
Worcestershire have also dropped wicketkeeper Ben Scott whose future with the county now seems in doubt. Scott joined Worcestershire full-time this year after two loan spells from Middlesex.
He made a century in the Championship win at Old Trafford but that has been his only score above 28 in the four-day competition. Scott’s place against Middlesex has been taken by Ben Cox who will be making his first Championship appearance since May 2011.
