Mascarenhas confident of Finals Day role
By Bruce Talbot
Dimi Mascarenhas is confident of being available to captain Hampshire at Friends LIfe t20 Finals Day in Cardiff despite not having played for more than a fortnight.
The veteran all-rounder has been out since straining his upper back in an LV= County Championship match at Gloucestershire earlier this month.
He failed a fitness test before Hampshire’s Clydesdale Bank 40 win against Surrey on Sunday. But after missing the Royals’ 2010 t20 triumph at the Ageas Bowl through injury, he is determined to make it.
“At this stage I can’t be stupid but I’ll do everything I can to play and I’m pretty confident I will,” he said. “The physio’s not too worried but I’ve had a precautionary scan just in case. It’s just a strain, nothing too serious, but it’s one of those things that takes a bit of time unfortunately.”
Following Glenn Maxwell’s Australia call-up, Hampshire have to decide whether to recall Michael Carberry, Kabir Ali, David Griffiths or Hamza Riazuddin for their semi-final against Somerset, which starts at 2.30pm.
