Dixey decides to leave Leicestershire
By Paul Bolton
Leicestershire will release reserve wicketkeeper Paul Dixey at the end of the season. The 24-year-old former Durham University student is out of contract next month and has decided to pursue other career opportunities away from cricket.
Dixey was understudy to Geraint Jones at Kent from 2005 to 2010 and joined Leicestershire at the start of last season. He made five LV= County Championship appearances last year and made a competition-best 72 against Gloucestershire at Grace Road.
But he broke a thumb in a second team match at the start of this season and was sidelined for two months. Dixey was recalled for three Championship matches last month and the start of this month while Ned Eckersley was selected as a specialist batsman.
Eckersley, however, was preferred as wicketkeeper for the four-day game against Northamptonshire two weeks ago and again for the current match against Hampshire at Grace Road.
“The club is grateful to Paul for the contribution he has made over the past couple of seasons and we wish him well in his future endeavours,” said Leicestershire chief executive Mike Siddall.
Dixey is the third Leicestershire player to leave the county in recent weeks following out-of-contract batsman Jacques du Toit and seamer Nadeem Mailk, who have been released.
