Three-point ECB penalty for Clarke

By Paul Bolton, County News Correspondent

Warwickshire all rounder Rikki Clarke has incurred three points under the England and Wales Cricket Board’s ‘totting-up’ disciplinary process.

Clarke was reported by umpires Neil Bainton and Mark Benson for dissent during last week’s LV= County Championship match against Worcestershire at Edgbaston.

The former England all-rounder was unhappy at being given out caught by Matt Pardoe at short leg off the bowling of Moeen Ali and departed reluctantly.

Clarke was reported for a Level One breach of the ECB disciplinary code and has now received a three-point penalty which will remain on his record for a period of two years. The accumulation of nine or more penalty points in any two-year period will result in an automatic penalty.

It is the second time in 15 months that Clarke has been reported by umpires for dissent at a decision. His first offence came in the County Championship defeat by Lancashire at Edgbaston in May 2011.

Clarke was reprimanded for that offence but had three points imposed after a Level Two breach of the ECB code for showing serious dissent at an umpire’s decision during a Clydesdale Bank 40 match against Leicestershire in July 2010.
