Kent release Mahmood for SLPL

Azhar Mahmood will not be given a renewed contract by Kent for 2013 after the club confirmed that he has been released to allow him to take part in the Sri Lanka Premier League with Wayamba United for the next two weeks.

The SLPL concludes on August 31, after which former Pakistan all-rounder Mahmood will be available for Kent for the remainder of the season.

Mahmood is also expected to be involved in next year's Indian Premier League, and Kent are now having discussions with the 37-year-old, who has played for the county since 2008, about a Twenty20 contract for next summer.
