Giles: no margin for error on CB40 road trips

By Paul Bolton, County News Correspondent

Warwickshire’s director of cricket Ashley Giles has admitted that there is no margin for error as his side face three consecutive away games in their attempt to secure a place in the Clydesdale Bank 40 semi-finals.

The Bears missed an opportunity to strengthen their position at the top of Group C when they were dismissed for 92 and beaten by Kent under the Edgbaston floodlights last night.

That was Warwickshire’s last home group match and they now face another top-of-the-table clash against Sussex at Hove tomorrow (August 15) followed by trips to Wormsley to face the Unicorns on Sunday and a potential semi-final clincher against Yorkshire at Scarborough on August 27.

“Three of us are really close now. We have got to play Sussex but Kent have also got to play Sussex so it’s very tight,” Giles said. “We had a chance to give ourselves a bit of breathing space against Kent, but now Wednesday has become a very big game.

“I don’t like giving any points away. We have now got to play some really good cricket in our last three matches. If we do that we will qualify for the semi-finals.”

Warwickshire expect to have all-rounder Steffan Piolet, their match-winner against Yorkshire last week, available to face Sussex. Piolet missed the Kent defeat because of a hamstring strain but has travelled south with the squad to face his former county.
