WORCESTERSHIRE APPOINT SHARP AS HEAD COACH

Restructure of backroom staff at New Road sees Alan Richardson arrive as bowling coach

Worcestershire have appointed Kevin Sharp as their new head coach as part of a restructure at the club.

Sharp, who was previously second XI batting coach at New Road, moves into the position following the departure of director of cricket Steve Rhodes in December.

Matt Mason will take charge of the second XI, while former Worcestershire seamer Alan Richardson arrives as bowling coach.

“I am honoured and privileged that the club think of me in this way in awarding me this position. It was unexpected but I will do all I can to help Worcestershire be successful," Sharp said.

“I enjoy working here and have a fantastic relationship with the lads, the support staff and all the staff. One of my strengths is communicating and connecting with people.

“I spoke to Joe Leach (captain) and he is very happy and assures me all the lads are right behind me.”

Sharp will take up his position next week after four years in his previous role.

Rhodes left the county after failing to immediately inform officials of the arrest of all-rounder Alex Hepburn, who was later charged with two counts of rape.
