VOGES BANNED AFTER SECOND BIG BASH OVER RATE OFFENCE

Perth Scorchers captain will miss game against Adelaide Strikers at Alice Springs

Perth Scorchers will be without their captain for their next Big Bash outing after Adam Voges received a second strike of the season for his team's slow over rate.

The Scorchers were found to have taken too long to get through their allocation during their clash with Sydney Thunder on Thursday, their second indiscretion of the tournament.

They were also found to have been in breach of competition regulations against Brisbane Heat on January 5.

As captain, Voges received strikes for each offence, as per the Big Bash playing conditions, and he has now been handed an automatic one-game suspension.

The veteran batsman will miss the game against Adelaide Strikers at Alice Springs on Saturday.

His Scorchers team-mates, meanwhile, have each been fined $1,000 for their latest ‘indiscretion’. That sum will be halved if they accept the charge without appeal.

Former Australia international and current Perth seamer Mitchell Johnson did not take kindly to the news.

“What a joke this is becoming,” he wrote on Twitter.

Elsewhere, Hobart Hurricanes became the fifth of the eight Big Bash franchises to be reprimanded over slow over rate following their game against Brisbane Heat on Wednesday.

Captain George Bailey receives a strike against his name as a result.
