ARCHER ON TARGET IN BIG BASH DEBUT

Sussex bowler impresses on Hurricanes debut

Jofra Archer has drawn the attention of the cricketing world with an eye-catching performance in his Big Bash debut.

Archer – who took 61 County Championship wickets for Sussex in 2017 – claimed figures of 4-1-17-2 in his BBL bow, including a double-wicket maiden.

The Sussex allrounder displayed a rhythmic action a genuine pace as he picked up the wickets of Marcus Harris (50) and Tom Cooper (0) in his third over without conceding a run.

Archer’s efforts, however, were not enough to prevent the Hurricanes’ seven-wicket defeat to the Melbourne Renegades.

Sussex and Hobart team-mate Tymal Mills went wicketless (0 for 36) in his four overs.

Archer was born in Barbados but holds a British passport (his father Frank is British) and therefore could qualify to play for England in 2022.

When Archer spoke to The Cricketer in the summer, he wasn’t nailing his colours to the mast as far as his international career goes, but more recently the exciting allrounder has suggested England will be best for his development as a player.
