WORLD CHAMPIONS ENGLAND WIN BBC TEAM OF THE YEAR AWARD

The honour comes after their dramatic victory over India at Lord's

England Women have been named Team of the Year at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards following their World Cup triumph.

A dramatic nine-run victory over India at Lord's in July capped a tremendous 12 months for the side, who also drew the multi-format Ashes series in Australia.

All-rounder Danielle Hazell said: "Thank you for the award, it's been a fantastic year for women's cricket and women's sport in general.

"Hopefully we have gone places to inspire women's cricket and beyond."

Anya Shrubsole, who claimed five wickets in 19 balls in the final to force a dramatic turnaround, was among the 12 nominees for the prestigious Sports Personality of the Year award.

She finished ninth in the voting, ahead of tennis player Jo Konta, speed skater Elise Christie and taekwondo player Bianca Walkden.

Shrubsole received just 3,532 votes fewer than Tottenham and England footballer Harry Kane.
