Cricket by numbers...

12.06

James Pattinson’s County Championship bowling average this summer. The Australian – who took 32 wickets at 12.06 for Notts – has been ruled out of the Ashes series with a back injury. In 17 Tests, Pattinson has taken 70 wickets at 26.15.

400

Sri Lanka’s Rangana Herath has become the first left-arm spinner to take 400 Test wickets. Those scalps have come from 84 Tests; Muttiah Muralitharan (72), Richard Hadlee (80) and Dale Steyn (80) are the only ones to reach the landmark in fewer matches.

With nine 10-wicket hauls to his name, Herath sits alongside Hadlee (9), one behind Shane Warne (10), with Murali (22) way out in front.

Herath – at 39 years and 127 days – is the oldest to reach 400.
