Consecutive fifties scored by Joe Root in Test cricket.

The England captain’s 52 at Old Trafford extended a run that stretches back to the Dhaka Test in October 2016. AB de Villiers holds the record with 12 consecutive fifties spanning 2012-2014.

The match also saw Root pass 5,000 Test runs in his 105th innings. Jack Hobbs (91), Wally Hammond (97), Ken Barrington (97) and Len Hutton (98) all did so in a quicker fashion for England.

Number of wicketkeeping dismissals Jonny Bairstow has in Tests.

The Yorkshire gloveman became the fastest (47 innings) England wicketkeeper to reach the milestone, and ninth in total.

Bairstow also became the unlucky 13th Englishman to be dismissed for 99 in Test cricket.

Quinton de Kock joined Bairstow in reaching 100 dismissals in the match – his 23rd Test – matching his compatriot Mark Boucher who did so in the same number of matches. Adam Gilchrist holds the record by reaching 100 dismissals in 22 Tests.

Root equalled John Edrich and Sachin Tendulkar in hitting half-centuries in 10 consecutive Tests

Moeen Ali is the only player to have taken 25 wickets and scored 250+ runs in a four-Test series.

Moeen took 25 wickets at 15.64 and scored 252 runs at 36 in the series.

106 for 0

Notts Outlaws smashed 106 in the first six overs against Durham Jets, the highest ever Powerplay total in T20 history. At one stage 75 runs were taken from 18 deliveries as Alex Hales (95) and Rikki Wessels (41*) unleashed an all-out barrage.

Their efforts surpass the previous record of 105 put on by Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine for Kolkata Knight Riders earlier this year.

Hales’ 95 came from just 30 deliveries at a strike rate of 316.66, falling one stroke short of equalling Chris Gayle’s record for the fastest T20 hundred.

Gayle smashed a 30-ball ton for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2013. The Jamaican went on to score 175* - a record which is yet to be beaten in T20 cricket.

Hales has scored hundreds in all three formats this summer

The last year in which England won a home Test series against South Africa. Mark Butcher scored a century and Darren Gough claimed 6 for 42 in South Africa’s second innings at Headingley as England won the fifth Test by 23 runs, taking the series 2-1.

England were beaten in 2012 (0-2) and 2008 (1-2), while the series was drawn (2-2) in 2003.

The number of deliveries it took Toby Roland-Jones to remove Hashim Amla three times in Test cricket.

At that time, Jimmy Anderson has claimed the wicket of Amla twice in 754 balls.

Mark Stoneman has been included in England’s squad for the day-night Test against West Indies at Edgbaston, and so becomes the 12th man charged with nailing down the vacancy as Alastair Cook‘s opening partner.

Stoneman has scored 828 runs at 59.14 in the County Championship since making his move from Durham to Surrey.
