One to watch: Warwickshire’s batting has left little to desire this summer, so 21-year-old Andrew Umeed’s determined knock of 113 from 392 balls - spending over eight hours at the crease – was a valiant effort.

One to watch: There was a first Championship hundred of the summer for Nick Compton, at Chelmsford. It wouldn’t come in a winning cause, however. When the opener fell for 120, Compton’s wicket sparked a collapse from 252 for 5 to 262 all out as Essex secured a thrilling victory to march onwards.

One to watch: Somerset captain, Tom Abell, found himself batting down the order at No.5 & No.6 against Hampshire but with no upturn in fortunes, facing nine deliveries and going for a duck in each innings. Abell is set for a spell in the second eleven to rediscover some form.
