Nominate your club's hero...

Each month over the summer we will be celebrating the achievements of a Hardys Hero, somebody at the heart of their club. They may be a player, scorer, supporter or coach. If the club wouldn’t be the same without them, we want to hear about them.

This month’s nominee is Lee Round of Borstal CC in Kent. He was nominated by James Whitnell on behalf of the 1st XI.

Round wears many hats. His list of current roles include Saturday and Sunday 1st XI scorer where his 16-year-old son, David, opens the batting. His brother-in-law Daniel Tingley also plays, and father-in-law David Tingley is the groundsman. Round is also under-17s manager, under-11 coach, welfare officer, committee member and occasional tea man. Borstal caretaker Alex Porter said: “Most weekends he’s here before me. He may as well have my broom!”

Whitnell, 1st XI skipper, said: “He embodies everything that is Borstal CC, devoting hours of his time for various different roles. Lee understands the importance of colts cricket here and retired from playing early so that younger players would get a chance in his place. His immaculately-kept scorebook and dry Black Country humour would be sorely missed at our club, the fines pot would also be a lot lighter as Lee doesn’t miss a trick when it comes to paying up for dropped catches. On top of all this he arranges our NatWest CricketForce days. We found it amusing when his idea of ‘stepping back’ was to no longer be our fixtures secretary but instead take up the role of under-17s manager. We are very lucky to have Lee in our club.”

Round also offers Safeguarding training to other clubs in Kent.
