COUNTY CRICKET'S FINEST CAPTAINS

Vote for your favourite and let us know @TheCricketerMag

Who is county cricket’s finest captain?

In last December’s issue, we assembled an A-team of writers to pose the question: who’s the greatest England captain? Mike Brearley won comfortably, with nearly 44 per cent of the vote, defeating Michael Vaughan and Douglas Jardine.

Now we focus on skippership again… more specifically – a subject close to many of your hearts, we know – the leaders of the county game.

We assembled our team of writers, including Simon Barnes, Mike Selvey and Barney Ronay, asked them who should be on the list, added the thoughts of The Cricketer’s team, and… voila!

It’s not just about silverware… yes, Brian Close, Adam Hollioake and Stuart Surridge won a lot of pots, but there are others too, like David Boon, who achieved a remarkable amount, improving the fortunes of their counties without having anything to put in the trophy cabinet at the end of it.
