Double-hundred for James Taylor
James Taylor reminded the selectors of his appetite for run-scoring with a double-hundred for England Lions against Sri Lanka at Dambulla. After resuming on 99 this morning, Taylor ploughed his way to 199 at tea before finally completing his double off 312 balls. Taylor hasn't played a Test since August 2012 against South Africa while the likes of Gary Ballance and Johnny Bairstow have moved ahead of him in the battle for England's Test batting spots. Sam Robson made 142 yesterday and Liam Plunkett reached an unbeaten fifty while Taylor was still going as we sent the newsletter, with England's lead moving past 250.
South Africa are fighting back on day two against Australia. AB de Villiers (89*), continuing his extraordinary recent form, and JP Duminy (36*) had have pushed 290 for 5, a decent recovery after finding themselves 11 for 2 after six overs yesterday morning.
