The 2011 County Champions Lancashire are all out for 194 and relegated as Middlesex have won by 109 runs. Simon Kerrigan was the last to go as he was caught by Gareth Berg at second slip for a duck off the bowling of Ravi Patel.

SP Crook achieved his best bowling in First-Class matches

178-9. Luke Procter has been trapped LBW by Ravi Patel for 26. Middlesex are nearly through and Lancashire's relegation is nearly confirmed.

Five wickets for Crook, who has bowled Chapple. 146-8. 

Incredible spell from Steven Crook, who has just taken four wickets in 11 balls to end Lancashire's chances of victory and staying up. They have fallen from 107-2 to 125-6 in double quick time as Crook gets rid of Brown, Croft, Cross and now Horton. 

SP Crook reached 100 wickets in First-Class matches

Lancashire need 197 off 23 overs to win. They are 107-2 after 16 overs. Steven Croft and Karl Brown have added a 50 partnership in only five overs. Brown gone though as I type, bowled by Crook. 107-3. 

Lancashire, who lost Ashwell Prince a few overs ago, have reached 50-1 after nine overs in their pursuit of 304. They need another 254 in 30. Make that 50-2. Smith stumped off Ravi Patel's first ball. 

Lancashire, opening with Tom Smith and Ashwell Prince, are 18-0 after four overs. 

Lancashire will need 304 runs to stay in Division One of the County Championship from 39 overs. Middlesex declare on 305-9. Chapple has taken 5-47. 

Chapple struck twice in two balls a few moments ago, trapping Berg lbw and bowling Patel to clinch his second five-for of the match. 289-9 now. 287 lead with 39 left. 

Lancashire have struck twice in successive overs with the new ball, which they delayed taking by two overs. Malan was caught behind off Chapple and Simpson bowled by Shahzad. Just a glimmer for Lancashire. 265-6

Lancashire, desperately searching for wickets to keep themselves up, have delayed taking the second new ball. Middlesex are 248-4, 246 in front, with 52 overs left in the day. 

Middlesex reach 224-4, leading by 222. Malan is 73 not out and Jon Simpson unbeaten on 10. 

Tom Smith has just forced Neil Dexter to edge to Steven Croft at second slip for nine, Middlesex 207-4. 

Lancashire have their first wicket of day four, and it's Rogers for 86. He's been caught behind trying to cut Simon Kerrigan's left-arm spin. Middlesex are 178-3. 

A fifty off 96 balls for Dawid Malan. He and Rogers have now added 129 inside 32 for the third wicket. 173-2. 

Aside from a vociferous appeal for lbw from Hogg against Rogers with the first ball of the day, the first half hour has passed by without incident. The 100 partnership between Rogers and Malan has been recorded, and Middlesex are 152-2. 

The day has started with a huge lbw shout from Kyle Hogg against Chris Rogers with the very first ball. Middlesex now 130-2 in their second innings and leading by 128. If Surrey win at the Oval, Lancashire have to win here or they're down. 

Middlesex have closed on 129-2, leading by 127 runs. Their position in the match is strengthened by the fact that Lancashire may be in desperate need of a win on the final day and could agree to a steep run chase with the hosts holding all the cards.

Chris Rogers and Dawid Malan have added 48 for the third wicket for Middlesex to frustrate the visitors and move the score to 92-2. Rogers is on 47 and Malan on 15. 11.4 more overs to be bowled tonight. 

A second wicket for Lancashire courtesy of Ajmal Shahzad, who has bowled Joe Denly off an inside edge. Middlesex are now 45-2, leading by 43. 19.1 overs left tonight. Chris Rogers is not out 20. 

James Foster has gone for 61, caught behind against David Balcombe. Essex 452-7, 403 ahead.

Chapple strikes to get rid of Sam Robson, lbw for three. Middlesex are 5-1 in the third. 

Brown bowled by Berg for 78 to close the Lancashire innings at 448, a lead of two. That should also be tea with 37 overs still to be bowled today. 

Chapple has been stumped for 29 off Patel's bowling, leaving Lancashire at 426-8 and 20 behind. 

Lancashire are still going pretty well here, despite the recent departure of Kyle Hogg to Ravi Patel. Brown has reached his half-century, he's 54 now, and Chapple is there with him. We have a little less than 53 overs to be bowled today. 389-7. 

Lancashire achieve that target with two balls to spare. Now they go in search of an unlikely win. 355-6. They are 87 behind with best part of five sessions left in the match. 

We have a run chase of sorts as Lancashire chase a fourth batting point. Cross whacked the first ball of the 110th over for six to take the score to 347-5 and then was caught behind off Berg with the second. He's gone for an excellent 59 off 35 balls. 

Lancashire go into lunch at 327-5 from 105 overs and trail by 119. They ended the session like a house on fire thanks to Gareth Cross, who has reached 42 not out off only 22 balls in a stand of 57 in 8.2 overs for the sixth wicket with Karl Brown (31). 

Gareth Cross has come in and got his side moving with an unbeaten 24 off 15 balls. He has helped take Lancashire beyond 300 in the 101st. He and Brown have added 34 for the sixth wicket in just 4.2 overs.  

Another wicket for Roland-Jones as Croft is bowled with a shooter to leave the visitors at 270-5 after 97 overs. There has been a bit of variable bounce in last 20 minutes, highlighted by that ball. 

Lancashire lose their first wicket of the morning, and it's Prince for 71 as he edges Toby Roland-Jones to Dawid Malan at first slip. 266-4 in the 93rd. 

Three breakthroughs for Yorks in the first 55 minutes here. Ashraf has removed Bragg and Walters, and Patterson has just had Lloyd taken by Hodd for a duck. Lloyd, poor lad,  has now made a pair on first-class debut. Glamorgan 46-5, and crumbling. 

A solid enough start for Lancashire, who have moved to 255-3 in the 86th over. Middlesex delayed taking the second new ball by an over, but there has been no movement with it so far from Gareth Berg or Toby Roland-Jones. Prince on 65, Brown 12. 

The players are on their way out for what could be a pivotal day in Lancashire's fight against relegation. They simply have to bat extremely well to get from 236-3 up towards, and ideally beyond, Middlesex's 446. Ashwell Prince and Karl Brown are not out

Lancashire close on 236-3. It was another hard day in the field as the batsman made the most the best weather of the season at Lord's. The new ball is available in three overs and Middlesex will target a big impact in the early morning conditions.

225-3. Paul Horton dabbles at a short delivery from Steven Crook wide outside the off stump and is caught by wicketkeeper John Simpson for 64. It was a soft dismissal late in the day. 6 overs to bowl.

Paul Horton posts an 87-ball half century to take Lancashire within five runs of a batting point at 195-2. He and Ashwell Prince have put on 100 for the third wicket. 

A very quiet opening half hour or so of the evening session has seen the visitors advance their first innings to 133-2 in the 53rd over. 

Lancashire move to 116-2 after 45 overs in reply to 446. The visitors have definitely enjoyed the more profitable day even though they are behind in the match. Ashwell Prince is 13 and Paul Horton six. 

Both Lancashire openers have gone. Smith stumped off Ravi Patel for 55, 95-2 in the 38th. 

Luke Procter goes for 30 to a catch at second slip by Sam Robson off Steven Crook, the ball ballooning off the glove. Five more and it would have been the Red Rose county's first 100-stand of the season in Championship cricket. Smith still there on 55. 

Second fifty in two Championship matches for Tom Smith off 86 balls with eight fours. This is impressive stuff from Lancashire, who have struggled with the bat all season. The fact that this, at 82-0, is their best opening stand of the summer in this form.

Dizzy heights for Lancashire, who have only had one previous opening stand above 50 this season. Now Tom Smith and Luke Procter have added 52 for the first wicket inside 20 overs. 

Lancashire reach the break at 18-0 after 10 overs in reply to 446. The visitors could not afford to lose a wicket in that last half hour, and they haven't. Tom Smith is nine not out, Luke Procter three. 

Lancashire have veered from the tried and trusted at the top of the order in terms of Paul Horton, who has been shifted downwards. They are opening with Tom Smith and Luke Procter. I can't believe it's a form issue with Horton, who has two tons this year.

Middlesex all out for 446 as Ravi Patel is bowled by Chapple, who completes his first five-for in Championship cricket this season. He finishes with 5-86. 

Chapple takes his fourth wicket to secure his side's third bowling point with nine balls to spare of the 110 over cut off time for bonus points. He rocks back Toby Roland-Jones's middle stump to leave the score at 427-9. 

Steven Crook gone for an excellent 66 as he edges Ajmal Shahzad to Paul Horton at first slip in the 104th over. Middlesex are now 418-8 after 104. 

50 for Crook against his former county off 64 balls with six fours and a six. Middlesex 405-7 in the 102nd.  

Good start for Lancashire, who strikes courtesy of their skipper Glen Chapple. Neil Dexter has edged behind to Gareth Cross for 125, and the score is 391-7 in the 99th. 

Day two will start under sunny blue skies with Middlesex looking to ram home their advantage from 389-6. This is a key day in Lancashire's battle against relegation. 

Middlesex will be delighted to close on 389-6 after a tricky start to the day at Lord's. Having been put in and reduced to 39-3, the early September starts appeared to hand the advantage to the visitors but Neil Dexter replied with an unbeaten 123.

Middlesex have dominated this day. They finished on 389-6 from 96 overs with Neil Dexter on 123 not out and Steven Crook unbeaten on 41. They have shared 77 in 17 for the seventh wicket. Great recovery from 4-2 this morning. 

Middlesex have really taken this game by the scruff of the neck during the last two sessions. Dexter (111) and Steven Crook (35), formerly of Lancashire, have now added 53 for the seventh wicket. 365-6 with four overs to go. 

Dexter reaches his second hundred of the season off 193 balls with 14 fours, but he has lost his sixth-wicket partner Berg, who was caught behind off Kyle Hogg as he attempted a pull. They shared a record 148 in matches between these two sides. 316-6.
