Mitchell Marsh needs ankle surgery
Surrey have been dealt a blow just days from the start of the County Championship season with the news that overseas recruit Mitchell Marsh requires ankle surgery.
The Australian allrounder has been ruled out of the early weeks of the campaign, though Surrey say he has not given up hope of turning out for the county later in the year.
Reports in his home country, however, claim that Marsh is targeting a return in the Aussie summer. He is due to go under the knife next week.
"I’m extremely disappointed to be missing the start of the season. I was looking forward to heading over and joining the Surrey family," he said in a statement on Wednesday.
"I’ll be doing everything I can to get myself fully fit and hopefully join the side later in the season."
Surrey director of cricket Alec Stewart said: "This is a big blow for both Surrey and Mitch so close to the start of the English season but we wish Mitch all the best in his recovery."
Stewart confirmed that the county are on the hunt for a replacement for Marsh.
